Something in the Soul

Creativity begins as a spark in the dark,
a question that will not let us go,
a door appearing where there was a wall,
a glimpse of what we have yet to know.

It is more than making something beautiful,
more than a canvas, a song, a line.
It is seeing what has not yet taken shape,
then giving it form, and breath, and life.

The artist stands at the edge of the world,
listening for what is yet to come,
feeling the tremors beneath the surface,
hearing the silence beneath the noise.

We inherit the stories of those before us,
we live in the world their hands have made,
yet somewhere beyond what we know and remember,
new visions stir, still waiting to take shape.

We carry the sorrow of our time,
its unanswered questions, its fragile grace,
the beauty that shines through the brokenness,
the truths we can scarcely bear to face.

And somehow, through color, word, and melody,
we give these things a life of their own—
making visible what lay hidden,
giving a voice to the still unknown.

This is the gift, and this is the calling:
to follow the work wherever it leads,
to master the craft, to risk beginning,
to change, to question, to plant new seeds.

Not for glory.
Not for immortality.
But because something within us
insists on becoming.

And if we are fortunate,
what we make will travel beyond us—
a painting, a melody, a story,
a moment of beauty that opens a door
in someone we may never know.

Long after our names have faded,
something of what we saw may remain:
a new way of seeing,
a feeling given words,
a light passed quietly
from one soul to another.

Perhaps this is what art is—
not a way to escape the world,
but a way to see it more clearly,
and leave it changed,
if only a little.

Something born in the soul,
given to the world,
and made to live
in someone else.
