About creativity and inspiration
Creativity is a funny thing. The more you use it, the more you have it.
It can be fleeting.
If left unnoticed, it disappears like a passing beam of light.
It teases and haunts, consumes and overtakes,
and draws me into an unknown landscape where every path leads to another discovery ...
if I let it ...
if I am willing to do the work.
Sometimes it feels like play. Other times it doesn't.
Either way, it asks only that I follow where it leads,
without fear, without expectation.
It is a beginning, again and again.
Timeless.
Sacred.
Creativity is not only about doing—though it certainly requires doing.
More than anything, it is about being ...
Being present.
Showing up.
Giving it time.
Having the courage to step into the unknown.
It is a jealous lover ... impatient, demanding, and all-consuming.
Yet it breathes life into me and connects me to places within myself
that I never knew existed.
It is the ultimate magician.
It is death and rebirth.
It is an abyss.
It is life.
It is love.
And yet, for all its mystery, creativity is often born from the ordinary ...
from working, doodling, wandering, and daydreaming.
It begins as the smallest spark,
then asks for patience.
Ideas are tumbled and polished like stones ...
sometimes emerging smooth and luminous,
sometimes crumbling into dust.
Inspiration often arrives when least expected,
as a flash of insight.
But, I have come to believe that these flashes are earned.
Inspiration comes most often through the work itself ...
Taking the first step into the unknown ...
Making a leap of faith ...
Letting go of the need to control the outcome ...
Creativity is a funny thing. The more you use it, the more you have it.
